Global HR is responsible for processing and filing nonimmigrant petitions with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. The appropriate immigration status for a foreign national employee is determined by Global HR after the hiring department completes the Visa Type Questionnaire in iStart.
Nonimmigrant Employment Categories
Global Human Resources at Georgia Tech oversees the processing of the following nonimmigrant visa categories filed on behalf of the Institute for qualified employees:
- H-1B Temporary Workers
The H-1B visa status is a temporary, nonimmigrant, employer-specific category for professionals in specialty occupations at Georgia Tech.
- TN (Trade NAFTA) for Canadians and Mexicans
TN is a temporary, nonimmigrant status available in increments of up to three years to certain Canadian or Mexican citizens only.
- O-1 Alien Workers of Extraordinary Ability
The O-1 visa status is a temporary, nonimmigrant category for professionals/people highly distinguished in their fields (top 10%) who will work in that field.
- E-3 Australian 'Specialty Occupation' Professionals
The E-3 visa category is a temporary, nonimmigrant category available only to nationals of the Commonwealth of Australia entering the U.S.
